Your new role

Our client offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled Principal ETCS Engineer to join their team in Queensland and contribute to top-tier projects in Australia. This role involves spearheading the development of engineering specifications, reports, design, and testing of ITS system components. As a specialist, you'll focus on defining reference designs for new ITS systems, integrating plans for rolling stock, and ensuring the assurance of new systems and operational methodologies.


As the Principal ECS Engineer, you'll support various delivery phases, performing design and engineering tasks on rolling stock systems. Your responsibilities include producing safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective designs, supporting production, maintenance, and test and commissioning. Additionally, you'll provide timely engineering advice, identify root causes of issues, manage technical risks and opportunities, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic, Systems Engineering Degree or similar.
  • Extensive experience with ETCS will be highly regarded.
  • Rolling stock or Intelligent Transportation Systems experience.
  • Prior experience of software development as practised in railway, military or heavy industrial environments, with exposure to CCTV systems, Passenger Information Systems and or Shore Based systems.
  • Prior experience with real-time control systems, voice and digital communications, plant control logic and/or software development.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement experience and driving technical meetings with suppliers, customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Relevant Australian and International standards (AS, ASA, MD, EN, RFC, IEEE, etc.) experience, notably EN50155, EN50128 and similar.
